Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Climate Action, the Building Official is primarily responsible for reviewing, approving, and efficiently processing building and plumbing permit applications. The Building Official responds to customer inquiries related to the British Columbia Building Code, the Building Bylaw, and the Zoning Bylaw, and conducts building and plumbing inspections in accordance with their certification level. As a newly established position within the City, this role represents an exciting step forward in the continued growth of our Planning Department. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated professional who is eager to join our team, help build and refine our Building Department, and contribute to delivering exceptional service to our community.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum High School Diploma (Grade 12 or GED).
  2. Level I Building Inspector BOABC Certification.
  3. Level I Plumbing Inspector POABC Certification.
  4. Valid BC Driver’s License – Class 5.
  5. Minimum one (1) years’ experience as a municipal building official.
  6. Required to obtain criminal record clearance.

Position Information:

  • Wage Rate:
    • Building Level 1 Certification - $46.63
    • Building Level 2 Certification - $48.80
    • Building Level 3 Certification - $52.75
  • Hours: 37.5 / week – 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday with 1-hour for lunch;
  • Status: CUPE 2087 - Permanent Full-Time;
  • Benefits:
    • As per the Collective Agreement;
    • Eligible to participate in a Modified Work Week; and
    • Free Single or Family Annual Pass at the Trail Aquatic and Leisure Centre
