Animal Control Bylaw Rates
The City’s Animal Control Bylaw requires all dogs to be licenced annually. Licences are available at City Hall at the following rates:
The Bylaw also requires that all dogs be on a leash or under the control of a competent person when not confined to private property. Owners of dogs in violation of this requirement are subject to a fine and having their dogs impounded. Penalty amounts are contained in Section “B” of the Animal Control Bylaw.
Dogs must be on a leash in all City parks and in the downtown area. There are special regulations in Gyro Park and dog owners should look for the large signs posted when entering the park to take notice of the areas where dogs are prohibited. Dogs can be off leash while contained in the City’s boat launch area near Gyro Park.
In all cases, owners walking their dogs are required to clean up after their dog. Dispensers with plastic bags are located in Gyro Park and on the Esplanade for owners’ convenience.
Residents who find stray dogs or who have concerns with the behaviour of a dog or the actions of its owner may call the following number and Bylaw Enforcement personnel will respond:
