Second Avenue & Goepel Street Intersection Traffic Calming
The City is advancing a capital project to improve traffic calming and pedestrian safety at the intersection of Second Avenue and Goepel Street, an area identified as a concern through community feedback during the development of the Active Transportation Plan. In response, a safety study informed a coordinated set of upgrades, including reshaping and regrading the intersection, adding curb extensions (“bump outs”), improving sidewalks and curb ramps, and upgrading drainage, paving, markings, and signage. These improvements are designed to shorten pedestrian crossing distances, enhance accessibility, clarify travel paths, and slow vehicle speeds through the intersection and along Second Avenue. The project is supported, in part, by a $39,000 grant from the ICBC Road Safety Improvement Program.
