Sewer Service

This includes the network of pipes and infrastructure that safely conveys wastewater and stormwater from homes and businesses to regional treatment facilities.

Wastewater treatment is provided by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) at the Columbia Pollution Control Centre (CPCC), located in Waneta. This regional approach ensures efficient, coordinated service delivery and supports high environmental standards across the Greater Trail area.

The City of Trail is part of the East End Regional Sewer Service, a collaborative system serving the communities of Trail, Rossland, Warfield, as well as the Rivervale and Oasis areas.

Through this system, wastewater collected locally by each municipality is conveyed to the CPCC for centralized treatment. Flow volumes from each community are measured, and operating costs are shared proportionally based on usage. (rdkb.com)

Owned and operated by the RDKB, the CPCC provides regional wastewater treatment for approximately 14,000 residents across participating communities.

Following treatment, cleaned effluent is safely returned to the Columbia River, while residual solids are stabilized and managed through approved disposal and composting processes.

The CPCC is undergoing significant upgrades to modernize the facility and meet evolving provincial and federal environmental standards. These improvements will introduce advanced treatment processes, significantly reducing pollutants and enhancing protection of the Columbia River ecosystem.
