Gardener/Public Works Labourer (Seasonal)

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Grounds/Roads Manager, or other designated individual, a Gardener / Public Works Labourer would participate in the operations and maintenance functions within the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for delivering a broad range of labour, horticultural, and municipal maintenance services to support the City’s infrastructure and public spaces. The role includes the design and upkeep of landscaped areas, operation of assorted equipment, and the execution of seasonal programs such as, street and park maintenance, and beautification initiatives. This is a seasonal position, with work expected to conclude in the Fall.

Essential Qualifications:

1. 1–2 years of experience in gardening, horticulture, landscaping, or grounds maintenance.
2. Experience planting and maintaining flower beds and landscaped areas.
3. Knowledge of basic horticultural practices including pruning, soil preparation, and plant care.
4. Must have experience in operating and maintaining commercial lawn care equipment
5. Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Must be available for overtime, on call, and weekend work
8. Must have completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
9. Must have and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
