Trail City Council has identified the need to develop key issues and future initiatives in the interest of maintaining an active, vibrant and sustainable downtown core.
The Trail Downtown Plan endorsed in May 2012 considers and incorporates a number of key issues, such as parking and traffic flows, infrastructure assessment and recommended upgrades, streetscape improvements and design guidelines. In addition, it identifies potential redevelopment areas and will serve as a guiding document as part of the City’s efforts to rejuvenate the downtown.
To encourage investment within the Downtown, City Council offered an inclusive Tax Exemption and Incentive Program from 2013 to 2017. The program included an array of financial incentives to land developers, existing business owners and prospective property owners. The collective was to achieve an exciting and vibrant core while continuing to build a strong downtown economy. The programs had very successful uptakes with 35 projects with a total construction value of over $8.8 million. The building and business enhancements that resulted from these programs have created a positive outlook and sense of excitement for the city’s future.
