Trail Memorial Centre

The Trail Memorial Centre facility encompasses two hockey arenas, a curling club, a large gymnasium, racquetball and squash courts, several meeting rooms, and a large-scale commercial kitchen facility. The TMC marked its 75th year of operation in 2024 (video) and provides several services to a number of formal and casual user groups.

Cominco Arena - the largest of the two ice surfaces (85' x 200'). This facility has a stadium seating capacity of 2,108 people. There are eight dressing rooms and ample storage facilities available. The facility is primarily used for ice activities in the Fall and Winter whereas during the summer months it is used for large special events, conferences, banquets, and conventions.

Kids Rink - the smaller of the two ice surfaces (70' x 147'). This ice surface has a small viewing area and is used for various ice activities in the Fall and Winter.

Cominco Gymnasium - The gymnasium is used for a variety of recreational activities such as basketball, badminton, fitness classes, martial arts, as well as banquets, dances, concerts, and large meetings. The gymnasium is 115' x 60' and has a maximum seating capacity of 600 in the bleachers 500 on the floor (dependent upon event).

McIntyre & Red Floor Rooms - these are medium sized rooms that are ideal for dance classes, meetings, socials, or birthday parties.

Racquetball & Squash courts - there is one racquetball court and one squash court available for drop-in use. Membership and booking information at Trail Parks & Recreation Department 250-364-0858. See our page for fees.

All facilities at the Trail Memorial Centre are available for private rentals. Please contact the Trail Parks & Recreation Administration office at 250-364-0858 to learn about rates and availability.

Please note: the Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to close public access to the facility outside of the stated hours of operation dependent upon activities or events happening in the facility.

In 2025, the City is building on recent refrigeration plant upgrades and developing an ice surface with boards that are current to today's standards for our users and community. This all-encompassing project includes: demolition of all existing infrastructure (boards, concrete, and piping); excavation for structural fill replacement; new heating and cooling piping loops, concrete floor; new dasher boards that meet NHL safety standards with seamless acrylic glass.

The City proceeded with a generous donation from the Murphy Family Foundation of $1,000,000 USD, a grant from the CleanBC Communities of $2,500,000 CAD, funding from FortisBC, and a donation from the Vancouver Canucks and LiUNA 1611 of $100,000 CAD.

- Construction crews complete laying almost 25 kilometres of brine lines beneath the Cominco Arena’s new refrigerated floor.
- These intricate systems are now sealed under concrete, never to be seen again, as the final pour locks in the future of ice sports in Trail.
- Redesigned corner radii offer smoother play for athletes and improved access for Zambonis.

July 2025
- Demolition of the existing concrete slab and brine lines concludes, and Reward construction laid out the new under-slab heated floor and sand base.
May 2025
- Project contract is awarded to Reward Construction Ltd., who has extensive experience in the replacement of refrigerated floor projects, with the construction of Rogers Place in Edmonton being a highlight. They also have local experience on the Castlegar Complex and our Kid’s Rink.
- Restricted access is in effect.
- Heavy construction vehicle traffic in the area, use caution in the parking lot.

Where can I read about it in the news?

The Trail Memorial Centre has been home to numerous hockey players and athletes that have gone on to national and international fame. The facility has hosted many major exhibition hockey games featuring both the Canadian Men's and Women's National Teams, the Soviet National, Red Army and Junior national teams and the Montreal Canadiens. In addition, the Trail Memorial Centre hosted the Hockey Canada 2007 World Junior A Challenge which featured the Under 19 National Teams from Russia, Canada, Germany, The USA and Belarus.
