The City of Trail has issued an extreme weather alert, and an emergency warming shelter has been made available through the support and collaboration of City of Trail, BC Housing, the Interior Health Authority, the United Church, and community volunteers.
During the City’s extreme weather alert, the temporary shelter is open from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. It is located at the Trail United Church (1300 Pine Ave) for those in need of a place to warm up or rest from the extreme weather. The shelter will be available during this extreme cold weather event, and the City will continually and carefully evaluate over the coming days.
“City staff and community volunteers have been working diligently to provide a safe and warm place for people in need,” says Mayor Colleen Jones. “With the cold temperatures this weekend, Council felt it appropriate to provide our unhoused population, and people living in homes without heat, a safe and warm space to be on these coldest nights.”
