The City of Trail will deactivate the extreme weather alert at 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 19. Last week, the protocol was initiated in response to a drastic drop in temperatures to extreme cold levels.
The emergency overnight warming shelter at 1300 Pine Ave. will close Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. Over thirty unique individuals accessed the warming shelter service each night since the alert was issued on Thursday, January 11. City of Trail wishes to thank BC Housing, Interior Health Authority, ANKORS, the United Church, Selkirk Security and all other important community partners, donors and volunteers for their support.
“At the heart of our community is an incredible group of volunteers, who showed up when there was a need,” says Mayor Colleen Jones. “I’d like to say a special thanks to Tammy McLean, the shelter coordinator, as well as all of the volunteers, including the City’s council members, for outstanding commitment to the community’s needs.”
