How the City is helping our vulnerable

The City works with federal and provincial ministries to take action to help our vulnerable citizens. 

• BC Housing and the City of Trail worked together to build a 25-bed shelter at 2039 Riverside Avenue. This responded to the urgent need to support people experiencing homelessness in Trail.  Learn more here. 

• The City collaborates with organizations to assess the following: regular downtown street and alley cleaning, as well as graffiti removal.

Supporting loved ones in the West Kootenay 

City of Trail is a funder of the Bridging Rural Homelessness and Well-being: A Sustainable and Collaborative Regional Response project. It is a three-year social innovation project that started in fall 2022. The overall goal of the project is to improve the well-being of rural residents experiencing or at risk of homelessness living in and around the rural communities of Nelson, Castlegar and Trail in the West Kootenay region. Holding Hope & Healing Hearts

Virtual Moms Stop the Harm support groups, provide support and education to family members who are supporting loved ones with substance use challenges.

• Healing Hearts is a free peer facilitated grief Moms Stop the Harm support group for individuals, families and friends who have lost loved ones to help them cope with journey from grief to healing. Meetings are monthly and held in online virtual format. 

• It is an opportunity to learn about resources in your community and feel less isolated by meeting with others who understand your journey.
