Becoming an age-friendly community helps those aged 8 to 80! The City of Trail received funding to undertake a project to help make our community more age-friendly. A designated Task Force was engaged with the project consultants on the structure, content and engagement process relating to Trail’s Age-Friendly Action Plan.
An age-friendly community is one where older adults can "age actively" - that is to live in security, enjoy good health, and continue to participate fully in society. And the good news is that becoming age-friendly not only improves quality of life for seniors, it also creates a more inclusive, safe and accessible community for everyone.

The objectives of this project were to involve stakeholder agencies that serve seniors, as well as seniors themselves, in a process that would determine where Trail is at and where the community needs to go to meet the needs of seniors in our community. This work was based on the eight topics used by the World Heath Organization to determine the age friendliness of a community. These topics include:
The City of Trail had an excellent response rate to the community survey with 173 responses received and the Task Force members representing Trail were extremely engaged in the entire process.
As such, the Task Force feels the assessment and resulting Action Plan represent the current "age friendliness" of our community well and the action plan priorities are a true reflection of the age friendliness needs for the community.
