After spending the last four years advocating for and representing the citizens of Trail in her role as City Councillor, Colleen Jones is now ready to serve, as Mayor, the city she’s called home for most of her life. No stranger to the political sphere, Jones spent 32 years in a management role for the provincial government, negotiating and bargaining for government employees and management at all levels. Colleen was recently appointed by Council to represent the City of Trail during bargaining with CUPE 2087 Public Works and the Library Board, securing a positive outcome for both groups. Her extensive past experience in labour management and lobbying government at all levels has given her the tools to be a strong team builder and skilled leader.
Jones is very active in her community and enjoys hiking, biking, camping, and snowshoeing in the mountains. She’s honoured to be an associated member of the Kootenay Robusters, a dragon boat team that raises awareness and funds for breast cancer, and has logged countless hours as a volunteer for various local organizations and events. Her involvement with nonprofit organizations within the community really helps Jones understand the issues and priorities of her town. Working side-by-side with volunteers and other community members has made her appreciate how much their expertise is needed and valued. She wants to include them in community decision-making, be their voice, and advocate on their behalf.
Colleen Jones is proud that her grandchildren will be the fourth generation of her family to live, work, and play in the City of Trail. Her great-uncle, Anton Austad, has a significant role in the City of Trail history books as he served as a City alderman and has a street named after him: Austad Lane.
Her genuine passion for helping keep Trail a healthy and safe place for everyone sets her apart, and she’s ready to share her fresh ideas on how to improve access to affordable housing and childcare, stimulate economic growth, and help everyone lead active lifestyles in her hometown. Dedicated to making a lasting difference, Jones is not afraid to hit the streets and engage with the people of her community. In fact, these personal connections are what inspire her most — when the people of Trail talk, she listens.
